Dhillon and I spent a long weekend in Daylesford for our anniversary. We took Friday and Monday off work and headed up on Friday afternoon. The sun was shining as we drove up and I enjoyed travelling 110 on the freeway! We stayed at Balconies which was a lovely little bed & breakfast behind Lake Daylesford. The room pictured on the website is the one we stayed in. It is owned by an older gay couple from England who were very welcoming and promptly gave us a map and recommendations on what to do in town during the weekend. Once we had checked in, we decided to walk up to the main street of town. As we walked it started raining on us! Luckily I had my umbrella in my purse. We browsed along the shops and had a small bite to eat before heading back. Pretty soon we were hungry so this time we drove up to town and had dinner at a bistro in one of the pubs. After dinner we had a drink at a tapas bar before heading back to watch a DVD before nodding off in the lovely soft bed!
Saturday morning we woke up and showered and headed into the dining room for breakfast. We helped ourselves to fresh juice, fruit salad and eggs. Dhillon had eggs benedict and I had poached eggs with avocado and tomato relish on a toasted turkish bread. After breakfast we headed out to The Blowhole. Daylesford used to be a gold mining town (it’s close to Ballarat and Bendigo) and the blowhole was created to drain extra water from the mining fields downstream, it was basically just a big hole in the side of the rock. Due to the rain (it rained all day and night on Saturday) the water was gushing through making an awesome sound.
After The Blowhole we made our way to Hepburn Bathhouse for an afternoon of relaxation. Part of our package was Devonshire Tea at the restaurant so we had that first. I had lavender scones which were really nice! Once we finished eating we went into the main bathhouse area. I had booked us in to the private area so we not only had access to the main pool area but also the spa bath with spa couches (they are awesome!), the salt therapy pool, steam room and monsoon showers. We spent a good two hours going from pool to pool and enjoying the spring water. Once we had finished in the bathhouse we filled up some water bottles from the mineral spring water taps. The water has no real taste but is slightly fizzy from the minerals naturally found in it.
Saturday evening we went to DBar for dinner. I had a lamb shank with garlic mash which was delicious, Dhillon had garlic prawns and we shared a chocolate sticky date pudding with Bailey’s sauce for dessert. We rolled back to the B&B and watched some DVD’s before falling asleep.
Sunday morning we had our delicious home cooked breakfast at the B&B before going out to check out the Sunday market. Once we had finished there we went to a lookout and then on to Mt Franklin (it’s not where the water is bottled BTW). We drove Reginald up to the top, it was a bit annoying for me to drive so I made Dhillon drive down again! On the way back from Mt Franklin we stopped off at the Chocolate Mill where we had a huge cup of hot chocolate and I had a scoop of icecream with pure melted dark chocolate poured over the top. This was lunch! I bought some chocolates from the shop and then we headed back to the B&B to relax with some DVD’s and a cup of tea. In the evening we went to a place called Breakfast & Beer for a drink where Dhillon tried a couple of beers and I had an apple cider. We then went for dinner at the Bistro at the other pub as it was pretty much the only place still cooking at 8.30pm on a Sunday night.
Monday we had our final yummy breakfast before checking out and heading home in the sunshine!
