Section 1: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.

Scorpio Rising: You are very strong-willed and proud, but intensely private and not easy to know well. Behind your quiet exterior lies a great deal of emotional depth, sensitivity, complexity, and also fierce determination. When you want something you go after it rather quietly but insistently and wholeheartedly - and you usually get it.

You are not a person who lives lightly or superficially. You want to live passionately and intensely and are not averse to challenge, danger, or to facing the darker side of life - human pain and struggle. You function well in crisis situations and often seek them out, for you enjoy the feeling of living at full capacity.

You are very intuitive about other people and especially about their unspoken feelings and hidden motives. You usually have strong, immediate gut reactions, either positive or negative, which prove to be correct. You radiate a sense of confidence, well-being, and optimism, which inspires trust and good feelings in others. You like yourself and it shows. You expect success in life and you generally achieve it. Ascendant in Scorpio and Sun in Aquarius:
Although you are intensely emotional and fervent in your loves and hates (as described in the previous chapter), very often you are cool, detached, objective, and dispassionate. Your emotions are difficult to arouse, but once aroused you are intensely emotional, feeling love, hate, or jealousy with your heart and soul. Also, your innate idealism (discussed below) may prevent you from acting as temperamentally as you might feel. You have strong views and can be zealous in defending your ideas.

At times you function like the bureaucratic committee who will discuss and study a situation endlessly before doing anything about it: you lack the drive, passion, or confidence to put your best ideas into action. You may be reluctant to act forthrightly without the reinforcement and agreement of others, seeking feedback and advice when you actually need to simply act on what you already know.

You need to develop a stronger sense of yourself, to build self-confidence, and to learn to be more self-motivated. Finding a source of inspiration for your life, something that warms you from within and gives life a sense of meaning, is also important for you.

Air is Strong and Ascendant is in Water sign:
As you will read in the next chapter, you actually come across to others in an intuitive, empathic way, but (as indicated here) you are quite capable of being cool and impartial - more so than you might seem.

Section 4: Mental Interests and Abilities

Mercury in Aquarius:
You are a progressive thinker, open and receptive to new technologies and breakthroughs in science, and the latest discoveries in any field. You have high expectations and a deep belief that mankind's problems can be solved through the use of our creative intelligence and inventive mind. You have no patience for those whose conservative, unimaginative outlook limits their capacity to find solutions and envision a better future. You also like to keep abreast of current developments in world affairs, for you instinctively know that what happens in one part of the world affects everyone. You have a strong humanitarian impulse. Practically speaking, you have an aptitude for organization and enjoy being involved in cooperative endeavors or businesses that are contemporary and innovative.

Mercury in 4th house:

Moon Trine Mercury:
You would be an excellent teacher or counselor for you listen sympathetically, and encourage others to express their inner thoughts and feelings. You work well with and understand women, and the emotional, feminine side of life. You are articulate on personal (rather than factual or technical) subjects. Keeping a diary or journal would be satisfying for you. You also have a talent for learning languages.

Mercury Square Jupiter:
You have an abundance of ideas, interests, and plans for the future, and may find it difficult to focus on any particular area. You are not a specialist for you seek to get the broad overview, to see the whole picture rather than closely examining any of its component parts. Philosophy, religion, or other areas of theoretical speculation interest you.

Moon in Gemini:
You do not appear to be an intensely emotional or sentimental person, and you are often unaware of your own or other people's deeper feelings and emotional needs. Saturn in Libra:

N. Node in Cancer:

Uranus in 1st house:
You are an unconventional and innovative person, and you are seen as a rebel, reformer, or highly unusual in your manners, appearance, or attitudes. The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological factors described in each of the three sections below.

The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group

Pluto in Libra:
You are part of a 12 year group of people who are deeply interested in personal relationships. Your age group has a deeply-rooted yearning to see people relating and communicating with each other effectively and harmoniously. There is little egotism and a willingness to hear the other person's side of the story and a readiness to compromise and arbitrate different points of view. In fact, the need for harmonious, peaceful relationships is so strong that there is a tendency to overlook real differences and to focus only on the similarities in an attempt to bring different parties into harmony with each other.

Interest in psychology and sociology is high in your age group. There is a tremendous heightening of awareness of social skills.
